I liked the renewed Margitszigeti Casino building. This building was planned and built by the famous Hungarian architect, Miklós Ybl in 1869. His works in Budapest include a few: the Saint Stephen Basilica, the Palace of Customs, which is now the Corvinus University, the Hungarian State Opera House, the Rác Thermal Bath, and The Várbazár, to name just a few. The building was originally the Alsószigeti Nagyétterem (the Lower Island’s Restaurant), and it maintained a horse trail connected to the other restaurants located in the northern part of the island. At that time, Margitsziget (Margarite Island) consisted of few islands and sand banks, the largest being Alsósziget (Lower Island), and these islands didn’t have a bridge that connected them. During the Second World War, the building suffered serious damage. Although the building was renovated after the war, and renamed the Casino Bistro, it never received its original glow. Finally, in 2017, the building was reconstructed based of the original Ybl’s plans.
