Trains on time 25mins on fast train to Budapest and first time on new double decker train!
Very quick and affordable travel to the city of Budapest.
Not so clean, but they're probably trying their best despite the situation. There is free public toilet for males, females, a diaper changing spot, and a toilet for the handicapped. There is also a Fornetti with fair prices (bakery&pastry) which is open until like 8(?).
As far as stations go it covers all basic needs. Platforms are clearly marked and electronic information boards are on each platform. Good to see trains so well used, my return journey was very busy. Not too far out of the town centre.
Modern.
Be careful about gypsies around asking for money or whatever.
My wife and I were traveling from Bratislava to Budapest on a train. In Slovakia, the conductor checked and stamped our tickets routinely. But when we crossed the border into Hungary, a conductor appeared who checked our tickets and showed me that one of the tickets had been dated for tomorrow (apparently the ticket agent had made a mistake when issuing the tickets). He then demanded that I pay him 24 euro for a new ticket from the current location on to Budapest (this for a ticket that had originally cost 14 euro all the way from Bratislava), or I had to get off the train. I laughed it off, and refused to pay or leave. He went on to the other passengers and I thought the issue was over. However, when the train stopped at VAC, it sat still for about 15 minutes while we all wondered what was going on. Then this same conductor returned with two policemen. He told them that I didn't have a valid ticket and that I had to either pay or get off the train. The police examined the tickets, and somewhat reluctantly agreed that the date was incorrect, so we would have to either get a new ticket or get off the train. I again refused and asked that they get their superior. After some more delay, they came back and demanded our passports, which they took and said we would not get them back until we figure purchased a ticket or left the train. This was getting to be like a scene in a Kafka novel... Then several of the other passengers started complaining, and we realized they were holding up the train only because of us (probably 40 minutes at this point). So we decided to get off the train so at least it could continue. I then went to the station and purchased 2 full fare tickets from VAC to Budapest, which cost a total of 4 euro. We boarded the next train and had an uneventful rest of the trip to Budapest. This conductor was obviously trying to make some extra money.
