The Szalajka Valley is located in Szilvásvárad . It is one of the most beautiful parts of the Bükk region and one of the best built for hikers. The high-altitude valley got its name in the 19th century from the main livelihood of the locals, from the burning of potassium carbonate (potash) called salalkali after the Latin sal alcali . The Szalajka-stream for a long time living in the wild brown trout , which is to propagate the stream bed of visszaduzzasztották several places, constructed artificial neveldéket. Trout have been farmed in the valley for about 100 years. Local specialty is smoked, fried trout. In addition, there is only one similar trout hatchery in Bükk, near Lillafüred . The Szilvásvárad Forest Railway runs in the valley . The springs of the Szalajka stream are typical karst springs with extreme water flow. The Szalajka spring bursts to the surface from a stalactite cave that can be visited in a short distance. Its water is cold, corresponding to the annual average temperature. The Rock Spring erupts from a rock fissure on the border of the watertight shale and limestone. It is a periodic spring, the water of which is one or two degrees warmer than the spring of Szalajka. From this, it is likely that it passes through deeper rock layers ( deep karst ) before reaching the surface . The main attractions of the game garden in Hungary are the mouflon (Ovis musimon) and the fallow deer (Dama dama) , which were introduced to Hungary in the 1880s . Above the springs rises the Stable Stone . Between the Stable Stone and the Tar Stone , in the part of the mountains called Virágos-sár , there is one of the sights of the Bükk National Park , the primeval forest

Great place for a half day/ whole day in the nature with the family. A small train brings you in the heart of a national park. You can have a lot of fun with the children in the \forest school\, have a picnic or buy locally grown fish (pisztrang), see a huge cave and a few waterfalls. Totally loved it.

Gorgeous walking trail (1.8 km), easy to walk even with kids or dogs. You also can go up by train.

While visiting Silvasvarad, we were greeted with a wonderful little walking street with shops and food, a small park, bike rentals, a forrest train ride and an amazing walk through the forest during the fall. The veil falls left something to be desired, but the play area, vendors, and outdoor logging \museum\ and the end of the train ride was all fun and beautiful this time of year.
