Kecskemét, Mercedes út 1

Quite a drive to Kecskemét, a good hour South East of Budapest. If you are interested in cars and especially Mercedes, it's well worth it. The factory runs free guided tours that go for 1.5 hours that cover a small portion of the factory. The place is huge and in between different sections they have a large air conditioned bus that moves the group. The tour we were on was only in Hungarian. There is some walking up and down stairs, especially in the robot chassis welding area. The entry point for tours is Gate 1, and is the only entry point for visitors. There is guest parking available if you come by car. Security is extremely tight and you have to go through metal detectors on entry and a bag x-ray, a bit like an airport. Don't bother bringing a camera in on the tour as all photos and videos are banned. Our tour of about 30 people had a tour guide and 2 security guards watching everyone like a hawks constantly, so don't even try to whip your mobile phone out! There are keyed lockers you can leave your items in if you wish. Very well worth doing!

We were there as tourists only as factory a visit. There is a bus that takes you from one place to an other within the factory, though it goes about 50 meters among stops. Why do they use it, it is interesting. Some part of the visit is interesting, some part goes next to a long covered floor that you cannot see anything.
Overwhelming security procedures, looks like a NASA facility
