To facilitate a more intensive research of molecular biomarkers and expansion of related laboratory diagnostic capacity in Hungary, the National Research, Development and Innovation Office of Hungary has supported the establishment of a molecular biomarker research consortium composed of Eötvös Loránd University, Research Centre for Natural Sciences of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Servier Research Institute Inc. and CRU Hungary Ltd. through one of its FIEK_16 grants. The consortium intends to provide services both for the clinical and the pharmaceutical industry, as well as for the national healthcare system and for the wider public. The goal of the consortium is to establish an internationally accredited, service providing molecular biomarker research center in Hungary composed of an accredited molecular biomarker laboratory at the Lágymányos Campus of Loránd Eötvös University. The operation of this laboratory will be strengthens by research groups at the members of the consortium to perform professional tasks in the following fields: setup of the accredited molecular biomarker laboratory with the introduction of requested assays in the fields of oncology and immunology; identification of new, potential molecular biomarkers; development of molecular biomarker based companion-diagnostics for pharmaceutical industry; creation of an automated „in vitro” system supporting the personal treatment of oncologic patients. The consortium also aims to create an innovation management service portfolio (related to IP protection, technology-transfer and incubation), develop reliable business plan for long term operation and provide bases for biotechnology and bioinformatics education. Project no. FIEK_16-1-2016-0005 has been implemented with the support provided from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund of Hungary, financed under the FIEK_16 funding scheme.
