Bicycle touring in Hungary and eastern Europe is becoming more popular. I have been an avid casual bicycle tourist over the past 10 years. I retired in the winter of 2017 and began searching for a guided European bicycle tour to cap off my first year of retirement on a bike. There were many choices from many companies, some quite large and some quite small. I zeroed into a bicycle tour of Hungary to allow me to connect with the country of my Hungarian grandparents and family. I found TradNatura Sport on a bicycle touring resource list from Adventure Cycling Association. I spent a good bit of time comparing Hungarian cycling tours in terms of price, accommodations, routes, and reputation. I found little about TradNatura Sport. The company rose to the top of my list because of its focus on interesting destinations and well above average accommodations. I ultimately chose the company and their Castles and Lakes - Vienna – Budapest. It was an excellent choice. This tour is an excellent choice for the person looking for a guided tour that immerses the cyclist in the people, places and culture of Western Hungarian. It is a good choice for the beginner-intermediate cyclist looking for a casually paced ride (10-12 mph) over a relatively short distance each day (20-40 miles). The accommodations are top-notch and the guides who are the tour operators are also top notch. TradNatura Sport is a mom and pop Hungarian cycling tour company. Peter and Mariette are very customer focused and offer super service. They plan the tour expertly and are a joy to cycle and tour with. I can see myself returning to Hungary to cycle with them in the future, most likely bringing some friends with me.

My family and I traveled in Hungary with TradNatura Sport and had a five-star experience. Peter and Marietta were expert communicators and very helpful with trip planning. They planned for every detail, including a right-sized bicycle for my younger son and perfect family accommodations. The cycling was the best blend of challenging and leisurely, the destinations and accommodations were superior, and we are still talking about our meals, especially Marietta's picnic lunches. Peter and Marietta are cycling experts, outdoor enthusiasts, knowledgeable Hungarian historians and the loveliest host couple we have ever met.

When booking our bike tour with TradNatura Sport, and Marietta and Peter, we were expecting a bike ride; what we got was so much more! Our tour included a history tour, a gastronomical tour and a most wonderful bike tour! Marietta and Peter made sure all our needs were taken care of, they ensured our safety on the bike ride and supported any members of our group who were not up to riding at any point along the way, nothing was too much trouble. The bike tour was adapted to our requests and included some particular places of interest to our group which may not have been on the standard tour; Marietta and Peter were happy to negotiate the changes we requested. I would highly recommend TradNatura Sport and Marietta and Peter when considering another bike tour in Hungary and Austria.

We had one of our very favorite trips ever with TradNaturaSport. We were expertly taken care of from the moment the adventure began. We especially liked the personal attention from Peter and Marietta. We ate some lunches in restaurants and cafes but our favorites were the picnics that they personally prepared. The dinners were always delicious and the restaurant owners seemed to be personal friends! The rides were just as we hoped they would be and more! Just the right mileage and difficulty for us. We spent several lovely afternoons in the warm springs along our route, in between visiting landmarks and historic sites that were brand new to all of us. It was a wonderful trip and we would recommend it to anyone looking for adventure and comfort all rolled into one! Penny and Paul Carpenter, USA

The north west Hungary 'castles and spas' trip was the best nature based cycling I've done in Europe. To end a day on the bike by staying in a castle or soaking in a natural thermal pool, like the one at Heviz, is something special. It is a great mix of village life, national parks, palaces and the lovely circuit around Lake Balaton. An unplannable highlight, which I hope also happens to you, was stopping on the bikes on a country lane for a farmer driving rare Hungarian Grey cattle. Peter and Marietta are generous, inclusive and welcoming hosts. We had such fun on this trip.

Simply, you will not find better travel guides with local knowledge than, Peter and Marietta. They will cater to your every need, ensuring a safe, comfortable and brilliant travel experience. I was treated to a Hungarian experience I otherwise would have missed had I traveled solo. Without question, I would cycle with them again...this trip will forever be in the forefront of my mind. Thank you Peter and Marietta, I sincerely hope to see you again! For those of you reading this, their "Castles, Lakes and Spa" tour of west Hungary is not be be missed!

This tour was an amazing experience! Marietta and Peter were extremely gracious hosts, and nothing was too much trouble. The cycling was as easy or difficult as you wanted it to be, and the scenery was stunning. We spent amazing days cycling through fields across Szentendre Island, paddling in wetlands beside the Danube (this one was a special request which Marietta and Peter were only too happy to accommodate) and, yes, climbing a few mountains. Great food and wonderfully eccentric accommodation - we stayed in an old monastery one night and in a log cabin in the mountains on another.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed a group tour from Budapest to Vienna with TradNatura Sport. Everything about the trip was perfect. Peter and Marietta were wonderful hosts. They were eager to share their deep knowledge of Hungary with us at every turn of the road, and attentive to our every need. Just as an example: my wife was having second thoughts about riding up a hill at the start of the last day, so Peter put her bike in the van and drove her to the top. She was the one smiling when the rest of us arrived! Either Peter or Marietta rode with us at all times (leading the group, and keeping us together), and the other followed with the van. They kept the van well stocked with refreshments, which we thoroughly enjoyed at rest stops every day and for picnic lunches some of the days. Instead of simply following the Danube, they took us to Lake Balaton to start bicycling. The route was very scenic, and the roads generally very quiet. They took us to all kinds of interesting places, many off the standard tourist path. Too many highlights to name, but the Museum of the Iron Curtain was my personal favorite. The accommodations were exactly as advertised in the tour information – spectacular. Each one seemed more interesting than the one before. And the food was outstanding. We do a lot of bicycle touring, mostly self-guided, in countries where we can speak the language. This trip showed us the advantage of having knowledgeable, friendly, experienced guides in more exotic places. Hungary is a well-kept secret, and if you like to travel by bicycle, the best way to see it is to contact Peter and Marietta.
