We got on the cogwheel traim here, connecting from bus line 5. The cogwheel train is old, but really simple and fun. One car has spots for bicycles as well. We had an entire car to ourselves on the way back down. Also, if you purchased a public transport 24, 48, or 72 hour pass, you can use it on this train as it is also known as Tram line 60.

excellent cogwheel railway stop.
The Cog Rail is a little known gem in Budapest. I strongly recommend the journey up the hill to the Children’s Railway, a Soviet initiative to train children to work on railways. It still operates on a narrow rail today. The Cog railway uses metro tickets so a day pass or greater, or a single ticket is used here. It’s in a very different area of Budapest; go and see it!
