We had a wonderful food tour with Barbie of Budapest Locals! Barbie knows and loves Budapest and by the end of her tour, you will too. We felt like we were touring with a friend, showing us all her favorite places while tailoring the tour to our preferences. History, culture, friendly locals welcoming you, this tour has it all. And OHHHHH the food! So much delicious food! By the end of the tour we could not eat another bite, but no worries, Barbie simply packed it up for us to take back to the boat. In March of 2017 I contacted Budapest Locals through Trip Advisor to arrange a tour of Budapest. Not being a seasoned traveller there was plenty of sites offering guided tours I decided to contact Budapest Locals because of their promise to respond in 24 hours. Considering the nine hour time difference I was very impressed when I received a response from Anita the following day. Through a number of emails I booked the Insider's Budapest with their tour group for July. On the day of our tour at the agreed upon time we met Barbara (Barbi) as our guide for the day. Barbi was an extremely pleasant and knowledgeable guide being able to not only answer all of our questions but have additional information as well. She gave us assistance in how to purchase tickets and use the transportation system. Offering suggestions to us for things to do and see on the remaining days of our stay in Budapest and even when my son started to run out of energy from jet lag she still was helpful. The tour was for the complete day however having a great guide made the day go by very quickly. I was so pleased at the service I received in 2017 I contacted Anita again this January for another tour. Anita was working on a modified or specific tour suggestion for us until Covid19 put an end to our travel plans. However if and when things get back to normal and we are able to travel again I will for sure be contacting them again. What I am also very grateful for was how Anita went above and beyond of just being a local tour group. With the assistance of her I was able to track down long lost relatives and this I am very grateful.
In October 2018 we took an all day tour with Budapest Locals, customizing one of their tours by adding more time. They were very accommodating focusing on the sites we wanted to spend more time on, extremely knowledgeable about their city and its history, and very personable. The tour was well paced, informative, and we saw all the highlights of Budapest in a day. We also enjoyed wonderful food. Budapest locals is a well-run company. They were responsive in corresponding with me, answering my questions and setting everything up. While in Budapest, even after the tour, they were available to us for questions and available for general help. They are not only tour guides but really great ambassadors for their city. We are frequent travelers and book private tours and this was the best personalized tour we have taken in any city. We are highly recommend them. They are really a five star company.
We hired a local guide to show us around Budapest on our first full day in the beautiful city. She showed up at our hotel with a smile on her face and ready to show us her beautiful city. I thought it was the PERFECT way to introduce us to the city! She showed us the important buildings, gave us the history and told us stories, and we ate strudels and coffee for a quick break. She instructed us how to use the subway and gave us great tips for the next few days that we would explore Budapest on our own. I would HIGHLY recommend getting this tour right away when you visit for the first time. We (married couple) travelled with our 22 yr. old son who was studying in Prague for the semester. This gave us a great overview of what we needed to do and see in the coming days of out trip. I believe that this tour made our stay in Budapest so much better! (our guide is in the bright red coat on the right, she was WONDERFUL!)
We booked Budapest Locals back in August 2018. We have visited Rome, Paris, London, Prague, Vienna, and now Budapest and I have to say that Detti is the best tour guide we ever had. Working with Anita was a breeze. She patiently answered all my questions regarding times, prices, pick up location, etc.. When we couldn't make the original time on Friday due to delays in our travel, Anita immediately booked and confirmed us the next morning with Detti without any problem. And Detti promptly showed up at our hotel 10 minutes early. We were a group of four with my wife and two teenager sons and we all had a wonderful time with Detti and enjoyed her company very much. She was very knowledgeable and made the tour enjoyable and yet informative with her own unique ways. Detti was very gracious in answering any questions we had - from train tickets, restaurants, money exchange - and patiently taking our pictures, etc.. The entire tour exceeded our expectations. Definitely would recommend Budapest Locals to all our friends and families.
Barbi was the BEST! Private tour for our family including 2 teens. Kept everyone engaged and interested. So knowledgeable, kind, and accommodating. One of the BEST tours we’ve ever taken. Tour was truly ALL Inclusive, and there were so many food and drink stops. Highly recommend!
We visited Budapest while on an Amawaterways river cruise in August 2018 and extended our visit after disembarking. Our full day tour with Barbi was the highlight of our visit to Budapest. We were a party of 6 adults--friends and relatives. It was such a wonderful experience to not only see some of the more visited spots, but to also visit the lesser known and get an insider's perspective. Barbi fed us all day. She took us to a ruin bar and purchased cheeses, meats, breads and spreads--a feast in itself. After walking all morning, we stopped for lunch, goulash, of course, but not any goulash you've had in the U.S. It was delicious and quite filling. More sightseeing in the afternoon as well as a stop for strudel, not just a taste either. We must have had 2 or 3 strudels and coffee each. Before our trip I had done research to understand a little about what we might see, but to just see something and to experience it through the eyes of a local are two different things. I cannot say enough about the friendly and knowledgeable care we received from Barbi as our guide and Anita as our contact in the office. We were not ready to say goodbye at the end of the day so invited Barbi to have a drink with us--on us this time. Everyone agreed that Budapest is a city we would all love to return to some day, and we will keep our fingers crossed that Budapest Locals will still be there for us to call on again.
BOOK THIS TOUR!!! Wow, I simply can't say enough great things about Budapest Locals, and our amazing tour guide Barbi. Without them, our trip to Budapest would not have been the same. Dealing with Anita to make the arrangements was very easy and was able to be done completely via email. We were able to customize the tour to our liking, based on their great website descriptions. I would like to make a very special thank you to our tour guide Barbi who was out of this world! I have traveled extensively and done private tours before, but Barbi was a special stand out in all of my travels. She went above and beyond our expectations. She was extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the city, and was especially well versed in the interesting and complicated history of both Budapest and Hungary in general. Importantly, she also had a great personality, and even though I'm sure she has done this tour dozens of times before, she seemed so excited about the city, almost like it was her first time as well. She absolutely made our trip to Budapest feel like we were touring with an old friend. Thanks Barbi, and we hope to return some day soon!
