(Quoted from ribizlifozelek on flickr.com): The American Military Cemetery of Budapest was opened in 1946. Most of the American pilots killed over Hungary were buried here. Zoltan Tildy, president of Hungary, Ferenc Nagy, prime minister of Hungary, general Pal Almasy, one of the few survivors of the Hungarian military resistance represented Hungary. Today there are no graves: the bodies were replaced to the US. The former cemetery is nicely maintained, but it's not open to the public. You need to wait for a couple of hours/days for the gardener and enter with him. I had no free days to camp in front of the cemetery near the busiest highways of Budapest. The interior is in a great shape, but the wall of the cemetery is crumbing and the American coat arms is a little bit rusty. I'm afraid the stone flag will fall off the wall some day. I walked around. Behind the cemetery there is a quiet street which ends in a junkyard of the Hungarian army and an abandoned factory.
