Beautiful Church outside and inside. Beautiful garden in the front. Big and beautiful inside. It currently gets renovated. You can pay a ticket and visit everything. Downstairs is the crypts and you can even go up to the top and see the beautiful view. There is a coffee shop there with very good coffee. Everyone is with mask and also taking the temperature at the entrance. If you spend a weekend at Esztergom it is a must!

One of the most beautiful architectural wonders of Hungary. It's only about an hour from Budapest by car, and you can easily spend a day in Esztergom, so a morning to evening trip is ideal. The only issue is that the interior at the moment it is sort of under renovation, but you can still experience the special atmosphere of the space and the magnificent view from the outside.

Esztergom Basilica is Hungary’s largest church, and also its most important by rank, as it is the cathedral of the country’s primate. Stephen I of Hungary founded the first church on the site of today’s basilica in the first decade of Hungary’s statehood. The castle hill at Esztergom has always played an important role in Hungarian history since the country’s founding Inner area of the basilica is 5,600 m². It is 118 m long and 49 m wide. The building of the present church took place on the foundation of several earlier churches. The first was built by Stephen I of Hungary between 1001–1010 ,which was burned down at the end of the 12th century. It was rebuilt, and even survived the Mongol invasion of Hungary. However, in 1304, Wenceslaus III, a probable candidate for the Hungarian throne, sacked the castle and the church. It was repaired in the following years. The archbishops of the 14th and 15th century made the church more ornate and added a huge library, the second most significant one in the country. It was ruined again under Turkish rule, in 1543. In 1820, the Archdiocese was restored and archbishop Sándor Rudnay decided to restore Esztergom's status as mother church of the country The foundation-stone was laid and work began in 1822. The final completion of the cathedral took place in 1869.

Beautiful building inside and outside. We used the cat-stairs to climb the mountain to approach the Basilica, it has very good vibes.

This is a great place to visit - a bit out the way for those visiting Budapest, but well worth the effort if you can get there. It is indescribably enormous and dominates the landscape. It is a wonderful building with great views of the Danube from the rear. We bought the ticket to see all areas: The crypt is very interesting. The main building inside is very large and beautiful - great paintings on the walls and the dome ceiling; the organ is amazing (I would love to hear it). There used to be a museum inside too, but I think it is being renovated. The highlight for us was walking around the roof - you need a good head for heights, and the last spiral staircase is a little claustrophobic, but worth it for the fantastic views.

A very large and beautiful basilica, currently undergoing renovations, you can tour it free of charge, beautiful paintings from the inside. Great view of the Danube from the outside and a view of Slovenia opposite. Large parking in front of the basilica. There aren't many people around so you can leisurely stroll there.

From our boat, the view of this basilica is simply breathtaking. Its massive architecture and the shimmery minarets are stunning just like a fairy tale. Upon docking, it is just a short walk to the basilica. Inside the cafeteria, there's a small lift that brings us to the perfectly manicured foreground. The view to the Danube and across river to Slovakia is just as beautiful as the basilica itself. There was a long queue at the ticket counter but you could also join a guided tour.

I climbed to the very top with some friends in 2018 on a trip to Hungary. It was absolutely breathtaking, and well worth the climb! The only downside is that you can’t sing inside the sanctuary even though the acoustics are incredible!
