Milking tourists: After traveling from Slovenia and Croatia we arrived at Hungary by train. Slovenian and Croatian tickets can be bought on the train OR in the train itself. Hungary is different. Tickets CAN be bought in the train or the station but you will be fined if your starting station HAS a ticket office. This fine is 2600HUF per person. The system is not a problem IF it was properly announced, which it isn't. This is just MILKING TOURISTS.

Helpful staff while booking. Train from Budapest to Vienna was on time and while the train looks shabby from the outside it is very proper on the inside. International tickets need to include a second language (preferably English).
Don't even bother to ask for a refund (they made me pay again for a whole ticket) if you come from outside Hungary with train and without a printed ticket (only in your mobile phone). They can be really rude when you ask for the complain form.
Our experience on the train Budapest to Bratislava on hungarian territory I can describe just in two words COMPLETE NIGHTMARE. After a very long flight we jumped in a taxi and came to train station just few minutes before the departure. A person working in the train assured us that we can buy ticket in the train during the ride, that it's ok. He must have 'forgotten' to tell us that we will buy ticket 9 eur and pay fine for it 30 eur per person... And the attitude of the controller lady who didn't speak English and actually didn't care at all but being rude left us speechless... After travelling Asia for a while and never having any issues this was like an ice cold shower for us - well done - this is exactly what people who travel expect - such a warm welcome.
They take advantage of non-hungarian speaking foreigners living in Hungary and issue ridiculous fines on them. I had a very unfair one.
We tried to make a seat reservation. But the only thing she said was \do you have a ticket\ which we did not have seeing we have an interrail ticket so there is no information on the ticket. And instead of helping us she just ignored us and called over the next person. Didnt say goobye, i am sorry or come back with your ticket next time. No just ignored us and called the next person. Complete opposite of the hospitality i recieved from other people in budapest. Honestly the worst customer experience i have had in my entire life.
