BP Translation Conferences are annual international conferences for freelance translators and interpreters, usually taking place between mid-April and early May each year in various locations in Europe. BP Translation Conferences are organized by a dedicated freelance translator, Budapest-based Csaba Bán, with the assistance of some other freelancers. BP Translation Conferences are fully independent, i.e. not affiliated or associated with any regional, national or international associations, corporations or job portals. 'BP'​ stands for 'Business + Practice'​, the twin underlying themes of each event, but it has its origin in Budapest, where the first such conference, BP14, took place. Since then the conference has moved around, so far remaining in Central Europe: BP15 in Zagreb, BP16 in Prague, BP17 in Budapest, BP18 in Vienna, BP19 in Bologna. Our next event, BP20 Translation Conference, will take place in Nürnberg, on 23-25 April 2019. Over the years, BP Translation Conferences have evolved into the unique conference format that it's famous for. On the first day we offer a series of TED-like short talks, while the second day follows a more traditional format: longer sessions in 3 parallel tracks. Before and after the actual conference days there are usually some masterclasses and workshops. An ATA certification exam is always held before the first conference day. Fringe events are part and parcel of the BP conference experience: we start with a welcome dinner with a proprietary networking game on the eve before the conference starts. We have a gala dinner at the end of the first day, and a farewell dinner with a party at the end of the second day. Conference speakers include well-known figures on the international translation scene, making the event perhaps the most coveted one every year for a growing body of successful freelance translators.
