Founded in 1985, re-organised in 2005, the University Green Association has been a prominent advocate of sustainability at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. The goal of the student organisation is institutional campus greening and awareness raising about environmental issues. The 15-30 student volunteers concentrate on: - waste problems (prevention and recycling at the university and dormitories) - media appearances (newspaper articles, radio, television, videos, social sites) - awareness raising events (flash-mobs, competitions, trainings, lectures, movie club) - professional events (site visits, debate forums, lectures) - infrastructural development (recycling system, cyclist infrastructure, compost points, bird-friendly university program) - networking (founding member of the Tikopia network for higher education green organisations, contact point for many international educational and greening programmes, active member of the Hungarian Green Movement) - external events (giving conference talks, open debates, expos and projects at other educational institutions) The University Green Association is organiser of the Green Department Competition, the bottom-up driving force of institutional greening at the university since 2010.
